OCT8VE was founded on the campus of Oakwood University under the direction of Jalen Scott. Rooted in Oakwood’s rich legacy of close-harmony music—home to world-renowned groups like the 10-time GRAMMY-winning Take 6, the Aeolians, Virtue, Committed, and A Special Blend—OCT8VE brings a fresh, dynamic approach to vocal music. With intricate eight-part harmonies, they blend Gospel, Christian, Jazz, and Pop to craft a sound that is both innovative and timeless.

All graduates of the University, OCT8VE is a melting pot of talent with members from various states and professional fields—including Music, Business Marketing, Biology, and Social Work—all united by an undeniable passion for music. Despite their diverse career paths, they remain committed to growing together, creating, and elevating their artistry.

In just their first year, OCT8VE made a lasting impact—booking multiple performances across Alabama, building a strong social media presence, releasing music on all major streaming platforms, providing lead and background vocals for weddings, and earning features on gospel radio networks. Now, years later, their debut album, “GR8FUL”, has not only resonated with listeners but also caught the attention of mainstream artists seeking collaborations and partnerships.

As they continue to evolve, OCT8VE’s mission remains clear: to push the boundaries of close-harmony vocal music, fuse genres in unexpected ways, and establish themselves as one of the only Black, mixed-vocal, close-harmony ensembles actively touring today.
