OCT8VE was birthed on the campus of Oakwood University in 2022 under the direction of Jalen Scott. In previous years, Oakwood has had a rich history of close-harmony music from the Aeolians to Take 6, Committed, a Special Blend, and much more. OCT8VE is dedicated to producing close-harmony arrangements in eight parts and creating a new sound through the genres of Gospel/Christian, Jazz, Pop, and Vocal. Since graduating, the singers have relocated to multiple states and include a melting pot of professions — Music, Business Marketing, Biology, Social Work, and more— but have a huge passion for the gift that they were given: Music.

In their first year together, they secured multiple performances in the state of Alabama, released their debut single (Brighter Day) on all digital streaming platforms, provided background and lead vocals for weddings, and have been on a gospel radio network. In their second year, OCT8VE recorded and produced their first album, GR8FUL, and they continue to stay active on all of their social media platforms. 

OCT8VE’s goal is to continue intersecting A Cappella music with contrasting genres, touring as a black mixed-vocal ensemble and captivating audiences of every size.
